The Frye Company, the company behind Frye shoes, is a known maker of high quality boots in the United States. The company claims to be the oldest and still in business manufacturer of boots in the country. The engineer boots and the harness boots are just some of the designs being manufactured by the Frye Shoes Company. The firm is based in Great Neck, New York.

Frye shoes is proud of its finest full grain leather that they use for their shoe uppers, the genuine leather, and the high-grade rubber soles they use for their products. The company claims to keep up with its heritage of creating high quality pieces by using the detailed procedures in creating the Frye boots. The company shares that each pair of boots had to undergo 190 steps prior to completion.

The history of Frye shoes

The company was founded in 1863 by an English shoemaker named John A. Frye. He managed the business for 50 years and when he died in 1911, his family continued to manage Frye Shoes until 1945.

At present, Frye boots still has the respect and recognition that it had more than 100 years ago. Frye shoes started taking a broader direction as the company started to enter the European and Japanese shoe markets. With the Frye Shoes Company’s dedication to the leather industry, it has also introduced leather care products and leather accessories in addition to their leather shoes.

The owner of the Frye Company

The Jimlar Corp. is the registered owner and operator of Frye Shoes. Since its launch in 1863, Frye shoes is the oldest shoe company in the United States that is still in operation. The General Manager and Vice President of Frye Shoes is Dave Moore.

Frye shoes’ participation in history

The boots made by Frye were worn by the confederate and Union soldiers during the American Civil War. They were also worn during the Spanish-American war and by the President of the United States Theodore Roosevelt and the Rough Riders. During the homesteading going to the West in the latter part of the 1800s, many of the New England families wore boots made by Frye during the long journey.

The Harness boot was created initially as a favor to the Navy Admiral who John, the founder’s namesake and grandson, met during his 1938 trip to Washington DC. The Admiral shared his difficulty in finding Wellington style boots that he liked. As a response, John made him a pair. The company continued to supply Frye Wellington shoes to the American servicemen during the World War II.
