Etnies is a brand of footwear that is known as a primary maker of skateboarding shoes. Its skateboarding shoes remain to be a popular preference of skaters and hobbyists.

The history of Etnies shoes

When the company was established in 1986 in France, it was originally named Etnics. The name was taken from the word “ethnics,” which was referred to as a nod to the skateboarding community and culture. However, due to legal problems, the name had to be changed to “Etnies.”

Sales of Etnies shoes continued to increase particularly after the launch of the Natas Kaupas Pro Model Skate Shoes. This model help propelled the company’s popularity for several years that the sales of Etnies shoes continue to skyrocket.

From the time that Etnies shoes was launched in 1986, it began to include other types of footwear and apparel aside from skate shoes. The company has also created a line for girls and kids.

The company behind Etnies shoes

The company is the first skateboards and shoes company to be owned by a professional skater. His name is Pierre-André Sénizergues. He is responsible for the current direction and developments in the Etnies Shoe Company. He started the distribution of Etnies shoes in the United States in 1989.

At present, Etnies is owned by Sole Technologies, a footwear manufacturing company. Etnies also creates skate shoes for women, kids, and toddlers. Of the two other brands of Sole Technologies, Etnies was able to reach a wider market since the other two – ES Footwear and Emerica – focus solely on skating footwear.

Why Etnies shoes are unique

Etnies shoes use a special foot bed for cushioning, known as STI Foam level 2, that also provides heel support for the player. Etnies shoes also have a sturdy sole using 400 NBS for the outsole and EVA for the midsole. For the support and convenience of the skater, Etnies shoes also have elastic straps for tongue-centering, while the tongues and collar are padded for maximum comfort during skateboarding or other activities.

Etnies shoes as a sponsor

Due to the type of shoes that Etnies create, the company is interested in sponsoring skaters. However, the company also showed interest in the field of snowboarding, surfing, skateboarding, motocross, and BMX. Many of the popular Etnies Shoes designs have been named after the professional skaters that the company sponsors. These include Arto Saari, Bastien Salabanzi, Ryan Sheckler, Lee Dainton, and Ryan Campbell.
