Shoes

Dance shoes are specially made for dancing. Like athletic shoes, they also come in several subtypes specifically designed for various types of dances.

Importance of dance shoes

Various dances involve various types of movements, which would require special features from shoes. Wearing the wrong type of shoes in a particular dance can cause injuries and foot problems, not to mention poor dance performance. For example, wearing shoes with rubber sole makes it difficult to twist and turn, so rubber-soled shoes are not appropriate for ballroom dancing.

Types of dance shoes

Ballet shoes

Ballet shoes are used for ballet. Also called pointe shoes, ballet dance shoes have stiffened toe boxes and soles to facilitate tip toes and other ballerina movements. The toe boxes are hardened with the use of glue. Ballet dance shoes have straps and ribbons that secure the shoes into place and tie them around the ballerina’s ankles.

Some ballet shoes are in the form of slippers made of leather or canvas. They have no heels, but they have soles that are usually made of leather. This type of ballet shoes is also called “split-sole.” They come in various colors such as pale tan, white, black, and pink.

Jazz shoes

Jazz shoes have soles composed of two parts. One part is a sole made of rubber to provides friction and flexibility, which are important to support jazz movements. The other part is a low heel, usually about an inch high or lower. These parts are attached to the foot with the use of elastic inserts and laces that secure the foot in place.

Tango Shoes

Tango shoes are specifically designed to support graceful execution of tango and flamenco steps. They come in several varieties.

Ballroom shoes

Ballroom shoes are a special type of dance shoes intended for ballroom dances. They usually have soles made of materials other than rubber or any other similar material. Ballroom shoes are designed to allow for easy twists, turns, glides, and movements on the ballroom dance floor. They are designed to withstand heavy ballroom movements, but are not appropriate for rough surfaces.

h3>Dance sneakers

Dance sneakers or dansneakers are hybrids of dance shoes and sneakers. They have rubber toes that allow for both flexibility and traction. Dance sneakers are used for a wide range of dances.

Besides these, there are many other types of dance shoes that are used for different kinds of dances.
