New Balance Shoes

New Balance shoes are created by the footwear company that is located in Boston, Massachusetts. When it was founded in 1906, its name was the New Balance Arch Support Company. Although it doesn’t use costly advertising campaigns, the company still grew as one of the biggest athletic footwear manufacturers in whole world.

Unlike other shoe companies, it should be noted that New Balance keeps its factories in the United States and in the United Kingdom. Some of its competitors have already moved the manufacturing arm of the business to other countries where the cost of labor and materials are lower.

The history of the New Balance shoes

The company was started by William J. Riley, an English immigrant in 1906. The New Balance Arch Support Company started through the manufacture of the accessories, including arch supports, which would make the shoes fit better and will lessen foot pain as the workers work on their feet. Boston, Massachusetts was (and still is) the headquarters of the New Balance Shoes Company.

One of company’s tops salesmen, Arthur Hall, became William Riley’s partner in 1934. Hall was able to market the products to people who are in professions that require them to stand most of the time, such as policemen. The first running shoes of New Balance were made in 1938 in which the company combined comfort with performance required by the athletes. The shoe company was so confident of their product that they even offered a money-back guarantee.

In 1956, the New Balance Shoes Company was sold to Hall’s daughter Eleanor and her husband Paul Kadoosh. At that time, the company continues to sell arch supports. It was in 1961 when they designed the first shoes for running that has ripple sole. It also comes in varying widths. This New Balance Shoes was named the Trackster and became the tops choice for fitness and running coaches.

Marketing for the New Balance Shoes was mostly through word of mouth. In 1972, the company was bought by Jim Davis and he kept the commitment of the company to provide quality products, good customer service and respect individual preferences.

What makes New Balance shoes unique?

New Balance Shoes is knows for the comfort that one can get even while wearing the shoes and standing up for some time. The New Balance Shoes Company is also noted as one of the few shoe companies who kept majority of their production done in the United States. Question: is it correct that the higher the number on the shoe, such as 400′s, 500′s, 811, 558 – the higher the more support? One sales person said that the numbers did not matter, so i bought a one in the 400′s and they are not comfortable at all. I need advise on how to shop and which numbers to choose. Thank you for your help.

In response to those wondering if the number means anything on the New Balance shoes YES it does. My son who has serious problems with his feet which has required surgery even, we have been told by our doctor that the best shoes for him is the New Balance and the higher the number the better the support from the shoe.

I would like to know the differences in the more expensive New Balance shoes sold only at New Balance stores and the cheaper ones sold at other department stores. I remember the sales man told me about the anti roll bars but can’t remember the rest of the construction points he mentioned.
I have the expensive ones and really like them and a friend ask me the differences.

Linda, You are correct. My son has orthotics. The higher the number the more support. His Podiatrist recommended anything over a 800 series. New balnce, Asics or Brooks brands is what he recommend for him.

The last two pairs of New Balance walking shoes have started squeaking when I walk after just two or three days. They did not get wet prior to sqeaking. I love New Balance and have only worn them for years but the sqeaking can be alittle embarasing. Do you know why they do this?
