Men’s Shoes

It used to be that men were not as picky as women when it comes to shoes. Now, times have changed. Men like their shoes to reflect who they are, as well as provide comfort when walking.

History of men’s shoes

The first known pair of shoes was discovered in the US, dated to come from 8000 to 7000 BCE, although it is believed that shoes were used far longer before this. Shoes enjoyed a renaissance shortly after the Middle Ages in Europe. Turn shoes, shoes which were made inside out, and then wetted, and turned, were used during the Middle Ages. Shoes came to be regarded as status symbols available only to the rich. Shoes gilded in gold, with very large buckles, very high heels, and pointed toes became the rage among the European elite. Mass production brought shoes to the rest of the world.

Kinds of men’s shoes

Traditionally, there are only two kinds of men’s shoes: dress shoes and casual shoes. Oxfords, loafers, and boots go well for occasions when you need to dress up. Wingtips, shiny leather, and thinner soles are the things to look for formal shoes. Dress pants and business suits will also work well with loafers. Boots are good for cold weather. For formal occasions, the boots must have thinner soles and shiny leather.

Casual shoes can be paired with a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, and can come in the form of slip-ons, athletic–inspired shoes, and sandals. Slip-ons can be made of canvas or leather. Athletic-inspired shoes are good for short walks or a trip to the grocery store. Some of them are not made for the gym, however. Boots can also be casual and come in various styles to fit the weather and use. Hiking boots, snow boots, and work boots are just some of your choices.

Where to buy men’s shoes

You can buy men’s shoes from your local department store or at men’s shoe stores and boutiques at the mall. Discount stores are also good places where you can buy men’s shoes.

When to buy men’s shoes

It is always a good idea to have more than one pair of shoes that you can wear alternately. This way, you do not wear out your shoes prematurely. You will know when to buy a new pair of men’s shoes when the soles are so worn out that they no longer offer any support, or when your shoes do not fit a particular occasion or outfit.
