MBT Shoes

MBT (Masai Barefoot Technology) shoes are sometimes referred to by advertisements and news stories as the shoes that claim to make you healthier. Just to name some of the claims of MBT Shoes, it was said that MBT shoes can activate neglected muscles. MBT shoes can tone and shape the body and help heal joint, ligament, muscle, and tendon injuries. Wearing these shoes can also improve posture and gait and help relieve back, leg, hip, and foot tiredness, as well as reduce the stress on the hip and knee joints. MBT shoes claim that they can activate the whole body.

History of MBT shoes

MBT stands for Masai Barefoot Technology. These shoes were designed by Karl Muller, a Swiss engineer. His idea for creating the MBT Shoes began when he was in Korea. He discovered that when he walks on the paddy fields, his back pain was reduced.

When he came back to Switzerland, he designed a type of footwear that will have a foot pad that is as soft as the paddy fields of Korea or the Savannah in East Africa. It was in 1996 that he was able to finalize the design of the first MBT Shoes that were launched in the market.

His discovery spread to more than 20 countries leading to at least one million pairs of MBT Shoes being sold every year. A pair of MBT Shoes would cost an average of $250.

How the MBT shoes work

Since MBT Shoes made huge claims, the most common question about MBT shoes is how does this technology work.

Because the sole of the MBT shoes have several layers, each layer performs a special function to grant the benefits claimed by the MBT shoes. The glass fiber and TPU shank provides the firmness and the rolling movement of the feet, as well as distributes the pressure while walking. The PU midsole also helps in giving the rolling movement and in activating the stabilizing muscles even while just standing. The Masai sensor is what gives that special feeling as if the person is walking on a beach while wearing the MBT Shoes.

Through the several layers of the MBT soles, the shoes were able to distribute the pressure while walking, thus, lessening the pressure on the soles of the feet and on the leg and back muscles. With the special technology used in MBT shoes, it can activate the compensatory muscles through the natural instability feature of the MBT Shoes.

Be forewarned, these MBT shoes deteriorate quickly when exposed to water. the foam rubber above the sole rots away. Other than that they are fun to wear. I think Consumer Reports might call this a fatal flaw, it limits their value. One expects higher quality at these prices.

I have three pair of your MBT boots….Best shoe for my flat feet I have ever worn!! I can walk in the French Quarter on pavement and where before, with other pair of boots/shoes, every step felt like death.
I do have a pair of your MBT sandals that are sooo uncomfortable, that I have never worn them outside the house. I would like to exchange these for another pair of boots. How can I do that?

Sincerely, Steve Paster

I have wide feet. The best athletic shoe I can wear is New Balance, in a 10-4E. I contacted New Balance, and they have absolutely no plans to address this technology at this time. The comment was “We’re busy working on 2012 models now”.

Do your shoes come in Wide models, or with a standard D width? I’ve tried them on – 10 D – but I still felt pinched.

I await your reply.

Thank you,

Ray Wathen

MBT-outlet advertises shoes for $87 BUT THEY ARE KNOCK-OFFS! As far as I’m concerned, there is some real thieving involved in MBT’s online and I am putting all this on the RipOff Report.

These people are selling chinese knockoffs and if that is what you are doing, you are nothing but thieves. These shoes are terrible, don’t fit, are terribly uncomfortable and HARD! You need to be sued and put out of business.

I bought one pair of MBT shoes weeks ago. I feel well and comfortable when I wear them. I thought it is really good for our health. I like it very much. I bought it on the website http://www.footmbt.com. The seller is so nice that he send a pair of sock as a gift. The price is cheap and the quality is good.

I am in love with the mbt sneaker. it helped a lot with my back problem. Two month ago, I bought this shoes at the store in NY. They suggested me to get a 8.5 sizeat my MBT shoes. At time it was comfortable. Now iam dealing with a pain in my feet because of the shoes or the size. I am not sure what is the real problem. I went back to store to returned but they told did not accepted, instead they suggested to get in touch with the MBT manufacture to see if they can change the shoes. I really want to get a solution to the problem because as you know your shoes are very expensive. Can you help me? what the company can do for me or what should i do. it seem that this style is imperfect because the other that i had I do not have a problem . Please let me know what to do, i am a loyal customer but at this time I feel fustrated.

I consider myself a very liberal person. Most people who know me well, would say I’m a little too into self expression. Under the umbrella of self expression through any form of art there are very few things that can get under my skin and exploiting your sexuality maybe on the top of my list. Nicki Minaj, the present day shadow of lil Kim, unique style, good deliver, superficially confident and by today’s rap standards pretty hot. http://www.shoeset.com
All of this can be artistically appreciated but what I have a hard time appreciating is when my ten year old cousin now assumes it’s Cool to be bisexual. And although I understand and fully support lesbians, homosexuality and bisexual lifestyles .

I started a job requiring daily repeated stairs and inclines and declines. My knees were killing me. It looked like I would have to quit a job I loved and go see a knee surgeon…or try the anti-shoe. I bought a pair and I plan to die wearing them. I have worn them everyday for 365 days, yes, even to church. I never want to wear another brand. I believe that they redistribute your center of gravity which changes over the years, especially for overweight people. These are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn.

How can anyone possibly afford these shoes. You would have to be loaded to ever be able to try these. Do you really sell many — or is everybody else really rich. Only the wealthy could afford these.

The typical roman sandals have multiple horizontal straps that cross the feet and ankles. These straps are usually thick, giving a rather masculine appeal to the shoes. These horizontal straps can also reduce the height of a person as it cuts across.

I have been told that the MBT shoes can be rebuilt once they show definite signs of wear. Is this true, and if so how do I go about getting that service?
